Rupee slumps to a record low against US dollar
The rupee today plunged against the the dollar to a historic low of 54.56 before closing slightly better at 54.50 despite RBI's intervention. Allaying fears, the Finance Ministry said there was no need to panic. Dealers said RBI intervened at various levels in the market today but its efforts proved futile.
Stocks melt as Rupee plummets; Sensex closes just above 16K
BSE benchmark Sensex shedded over 350 points to trade below 16,000 level intra-day but it managed to close at 16,030.09. Similarly, the broad-based NSE Nifty lost 84.55 points, or 1.71 per cent to 4,858.25, after touching a low of 4,837.05.

US has designated Dawood Ibrahim's two top aides Chhota Shakeel and Tiger Memon as key drug traffickers and slapped sanctions on them. Chhota Shakeel is Dawood's lieutenant who coordinates for D Company with other organised crime and terror groups. Memon controls the group's businesses across South Asia.

CBI raided Yeddy and his family members' residences in connection with the alleged illegal mining scam. Police sources said the raids by joint teams from Bangalore and Hyderabad were conducted in 11 places. The sources said some residences of relatives of Yeddyurappa also came under the scanner in Mysore.
